L. Daniel Hawk is professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Ashland Theological Seminary. He is a clergy member of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and a John Wesley Fellow. Hawk holds a BA from Otterbein College, MDiv from Asbury Theological Seminary, and PhD in Old Testament from Emory University. He writes primarily on the narrative literature of the Hebrew Bible, with a focus on its use of metaphor and the ways biblical narrative constructs and contests collective identity in ancient and modern contexts. This focus converges in his most recent books, Evangelical Postcolonial Conversations (edited with Kay Higuera Smith and Jayachitra Lalitha [2014]) and Ruth (Apollos Old Testament Commentary, 2015).
