Many of us carry heavy hearts for all that is happening in the United States and around the world. Too often, there is little regard for our shared humanity and for your beautiful creation. People dehumanize one another, and in doing so dehumanize themselves, violating the sacredness of your creation.

As people of faith, as religious leaders and professors, may your Holy Spirit grant us wisdom and discernment to preach, teach, and live according to your love, mercy, and compassion.

In this time when people receive many hurtful messages and doctrines, help us offer a word that heals and transforms lives.

We pray for all who live in fear: fear of being separated from their loved ones, fear of persecution, fear of experiencing violence, fear of sickness, fear of losing access to health care, fear of what the next oppressive decision of those in power may be, and the many other fears that weigh heavily on their hearts. Grant them your peace and your protection.

We also pray for those who harm others out of fear—fear of losing power, privilege, or wealth. Heal their wounded and fearful souls. Transform hearts hardened by fear, and lead us all toward your path of love, mercy, and compassion.

Thank you, Amado Dios, for the blessing of community with whom we can lament and hope together. As we continue walking together, help us see your presence in each other and in the people we encounter on our journey of life.
