McConnell is Provost Emeritus and professor of leadership and intercultural studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. He spent fifteen years as a missionary in Australia and Papua New Guinea, and five years as International Director of PIONEERS. Prior to joining the faculty of Fuller Seminary, McConnell was associate professor and chair of the department of missions/intercultural studies and evangelism at Wheaton College Graduate School.
